List of Edible Seeds and Health Benefits

Health Benefits of Eating Seeds

Seeds are just like "eggs" containing nutrients required to nourish a new plant. Therefore you shouldn't be surprise for their rich nutrient content. What is shocking is the fact that we often relegate all these nutritional delights to occasional snack instead of making them part of our important diet.

Rich in essential minerals, niacin and folic-acid, seeds are a fantastic nutrition bundle. They are one of the best plant sources of zinc and iron. For example, Iron presents in one ounce of pumpkin seeds are 2 times higher than three ounces of skin free chicken white meat. They are excellent protein sources too.

Sesame seeds are rich in calcium, good news for people who have difficulty tolerating milk products. Also, seeds are abundant with vitamin E. However, certain seeds are pretty rich in fat. For example, sesame and sunflower seeds supply around 80% of their calories in the form of fat, and mostly unsaturated fat.
